Newest member of the family!

Tuesday, November 24, 2009
So as always things have been hectic and I haven't gotten to post as much as I intended to (really, I will get better about that - one of these days, lol). One of the more recent happenings has been a new member of my little family - meet Shelby!

Shelby was a rescue from our very own yard. Someone unfortunately dropped him off, and we decided to keep him. He's about a year, year and a half, old. We think he's a collie/golden retriever mix (known as "gollies" apparently!) Very well behaved, I've been able to get him to respond to a few basic commands already.

Overall he seems pretty happy, lots of room to run around and plenty of critters to bark at. His favorite thing is to bury *all* his bones under the leaves - come spring we'll probably find them all over the place!

JD true to form, disapproves the acquirement of a new pet; however as long as I keep him in treats, he's decided that Shelby can stay :)

Hey, I'm not dead yet! And neither is my blog...

Maybe it kinda looked like it seeing as I haven't posted for a really long while! What can I say, life got in the way :)

But I'm planning to start blogging again! Weekly at least is my goal, but more is better!

So what happened you might ask that precipitated the little hiatus my blog took? Well for starters I moved in September to Tennessee to do an internship for school at Oak Ridge National Labs. August was spent panicking about setting up said internship, and September with moving and learning my way around a new city which involved getting lost a lot (still does sometimes! lol) Since then I've been wrapped up with learning my new job (I do environmental stuff), as well as writing up yet another new thesis proposal - on said environmental stuff :D And December I was rather swamped with holiday sales (a pleasant surprise!). But now that the holidays are over, and my proposal is done, I'm finally trying to work on things I've kinda let go including my blog, flickr, etc.

Speaking of Flickr, for your viewing pleasure...

When JD goes to sleep at night with his favorite duckie plushie, he often has rather fanciful dreams...

Sometimes he dreams of being King JD, lord of pookie-dom...

Or resting away in peaceful Rivendale among the other elf rabbits :)

Cause every sleeping bunny needs a flower on their head...

I am such a mean mommy...

...but I can't help but take more pictures, even though I'm *supposed* to be taking new pics of my jewelry. JD of course isn't so appreciative of his nap time being interrupted...

*What part of go away do you not understand?*

He also has a fascination for the camera - that or he figures if he smears it with his nose I can't take any more photos... hmm....

*I thought you WANTED a close up?*

My favorite cute thing he's recently developed is trying to clean his toes and ears while laying down on his side - poor thing is so tuckered out he can't get up to do it!

*Well if someone didn't wear me out taking photos....*

Of course he eventually gets up and gives me one of two looks - either the 'what is the crazy human doing now?' look, or the 'I so deserve treats for putting up with you' look :D

*What are you looking at?*

Friday Favorites - BlueDogRose

Friday, June 6, 2008
A brand new series of blogs featuring some of my favorite items from fellow artisans! To start, this week features some of my favorites from Nakisha at bluedogrose.etsy.com

This was the very first item of Nakisha's that I saw on Etsy and being a bunny lover it caught my attention immediately! It's still one of my favorites, and reminds me of my little rabbits and how they would love to frolic in a field of flowers :)

Being the science geek that I am this one also quickly became a favorite! Rabbits in Space - how awesome is that! Many of her images feature the "little white rabbit".

What really sets Nakisha's work apart I think is how the images come to life. Each one tells a story. You can easily imagine what is going on in each picture, what the animals may be thinking or if they could talk, say to one another. In this respect, Nakisha's work also reminds me of the imagery by Beatrix Potter, but with her own unique mark. I just love Nakisha's work!

Nakisha has a assortment of her work to pick from, including fine art prints, ACEOs, buttons, pendants, even a book of her work! She also does some very fun and neat wire sculpture as well. Her work can also be found at her website http://www.nakisha.com/

So be sure to stop by Nakisha's shop to get your own "little white rabbit" work of art!

Anyone else think my rabbit looks like that little robot in Hitchhiker's Guide?

Monday, March 31, 2008

My rabbit apparently didn't want his picture taken! (Don't worry, he is always compensated with many treats!)
But doesn't he rather resemble Marvin in the recent Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie?

Who doesn't love a cute fluffy bunny?

So I got home from a long afternoon in the field (I doubt I'll be able to walk tomorrow - more on this later) to find my little bunny JD ready for a nap. He loves to flop on his side and snooze away on a pile of blankets I have for him in the kitchen. He was a little cool, so I took one of his baby blankets and tucked it around him and put his 'kitty' next to him to keep him company. [Kitty is his stuffed tiger houseslipper which he loves to clean, snuggle with, and toss around!] Of course then I had to take a picture!
